Chapter Thirty-Seven

I like the turnabout here at the end. It’s so very common in action/conspiracy movies for the federal agent to tell the protagonist “None of this ever happened.” It works out very nicely for the State Department to tell Eric the exact opposite. So much of these books are about perceptions—the value of our money, the volatility of the stockmarket, the conspiracies inside and outside of the law—that it’s very fitting for Eric and Rebekah’s story to be broadcast loudly.
