Chapter Twenty-Eight

Man, the French have a neat national anthem. “Do you hear in the fields the howls of these fearsome soldiers? They are coming into your midst to slit the throats of your sons and consorts!” That’s cool stuff.

The tunnels and catacombs under Paris are getting systematically filled in, as is mentioned here. Generally it’s done for one of two reasons: first, there are a lot of structural problems associated with the tunnels; second, it’s easier to block entrances than to patrol the catacombs. The map I’ve linked to marks several of these areas.
