Chapter Twenty Four
According to Micah Bruner, one of the French translators for the novel, all water in France tastes terrible—especially bottled water.

On my blog I had many fictional titles for this book, such as Felix of Avonlea or Harry Potter and The Work and The Glory. One of the fictional titles which never appeared on my blog, but I used in conversation fairly regularly, was The Fourteen Engagements of Rene Pabou. As you can see in Chapter 24, Rene makes a guest apperance in the catacombs.

Inspector General des Carrieres means Inspector General of the Quarries. It’s a government position dedicated solely to the tunnels beneath Paris. However, only a small portion of his job is based on stopping intruders, and the rest of it is focused on structural concerns: whether the rising city can be supported by such unstable ground. It’s becoming common for rooms and galleries to be filled in to prevent collapse—as mentioned later in the book.

The video game Epoch of Gods was invented out of necessity, but I think it works quite well. As I’ve mentioned, Isabella originally told them all of this Illuminati stuff, but we decided that it would be better if Isabella told them less and they figured out more on their own. It worked for Rebekah because she had an above-average knowledge of French history, but I really wanted Eric to come up with some ideas. Having him get his facts from a video game worked perfectly.
