Chapter Sixteen
The entire scene in the town is based on a single photo I found in a travel guide. I thought it was so pretty, I’d just set the scene right there. Sadly, I’ve returned the travel guide to it’s original owner, and didn’t scan the photo for your viewing pleasure.

The conversation Eric and Rebekah have, describing cloud formations, was originally (in Tangled Web) the first scene of the book.

I was very surprised to learn that many people, after reading Wake Me When It’s Over, didn’t really like Rebekah – or they only liked her toward the end of the book. The reason for this is that they felt that everything she did in that book was dramatic and serious: she was either crying, or depressed, or suffering mental and physical trauma. She had familial issues to deal with, and since we dived right into the action, some readers felt that we never really got to see the happy side of Rebekah. Consequently, I put a lot of stuff into Tangled Web and Counterfeit to show how cool Rebekah is.

And most of it got cut. (See the deleted scenes from chapters three and four.)

Still, this conversation lasted.

I also really like this conversation because it winks at the reader, with the following exchange:

Rebekah laughed. “Do you think we’ll ever get to the point when we can go back to school, and get jobs, and have a life that isn’t closely watched by the press and guarded by the FBI?”

“I don’t know. My only real knowledge of terrorists comes from action movies. Something blows up, and the main characters kiss, and they all live happily ever after. Not too long ago something blew up, and we kissed, and we’ve been sitting in court for half a year. Is that how it’s supposed to work?”

“Maybe we’re in the sequel now,” she said, smiling and standing up.

“Then lets blow something up and kiss again, and get it over with.”
